An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that IRS assigns in the following format: XX-X.
Is EIN public information? Yes, it is, but should be strictly guarded. An employer identification number (EIN) is a number exclusively assigned to an entity to enable the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to easily identify such an entity.
It is also possible to use the EDGAR Online Forms and Filings database to search for an EIN. Searching the EDGAR database is completely free of charge, and can be used to find a business EIN that is not listed in the online SEC filings.
Unfortunately, you cannot get a copy of the IRS EIN confirmation letter online. The IRS will not email or fax the letter, they will send it via mail within eight to ten weeks of issuing your company a Federal Tax ID Number.
Not for purposes of the Businesss incorporation address with the Secretary of State, IRS EIN number, or registered agent address. These need to be actual street/post addresses, not PO Box addresses.

The IRS doesnt provide a public database you can use to look up EIN numbers for your own company or others. However, you can look at your EIN confirmation letter or other places your number may be recorded, including previously filed tax returns or old financing documents.
