Generally, a paystub will list standard identification information about both employer and employee. For employers, this includes the name of the company, the address, the EIN (or employer identification number), and so on.
Ask the IRS to search for your EIN by calling the Business Specialty Tax Line at 800-829-4933. The hours of operation are 7:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. local time, Monday through Friday.
An Employer Identification Number (EIN) is a nine-digit number that IRS assigns in the following format: XX-X. It is used to identify the tax accounts of em- ployers and certain others who have no employees.
However, at any time the sole proprietor hires an employee or needs to file an excise or pension plan tax return, the sole proprietor will need an EIN for the business and cant use his or her social security number.
Fill out form 1120S, and mark line H, box 2 on page 1 if you are an S corporation. If you have already filed your return for the current year, write to the IRS at the address where you filed your return and inform the agency of your new business. Include your EIN number and have a corporate officer sign the letter.
Look on one of your pay stubs from the employer in the current tax year. The EIN is a nine-digit number in the format 12-3456789. For security reasons, your employer is not legally required to list its EIN on pay stubs, but it is common practice and the most convenient place to look.
