In the world of veterinary medicine, there are several different acronyms to identify veterinary technicians. The most common acronyms are: LVT (Licensed Veterinary Technician) CVT (Certified Veterinary Technician) RVT (Registered Veterinary Technician)
The purpose of the consent form is to record the clients agreement to treatment based on knowledge of what is involved and the likely consequences. The client may be the owner of the animal, someone acting with the authority of the owner, or someone with statutory or other appropriate authority.
Introduction. 14.1 The veterinary/client relationship is founded on trust and, in normal circumstances, a veterinary surgeon or veterinary nurse should not disclose to any third party any information about a client or their animal.
The principles A veterinarian shall be influenced only by the welfare of the patient, the needs of the client, the safety of the public, and the need to uphold the public trust vested in the veterinary profession, and shall avoid conflicts of interest or the appearance thereof.
The RVTs responsibilities are challenging and varied. They include: critical care nursing, administering medications to patients, applying bandages and splints, collecting and analyzing laboratory samples, producing radiographs, inducing and monitoring anesthesia, providing dental care and assisting in surgery.
Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) are skilled animal nursing professionals who have completed a Board-approved education and training program and have passed a State-administered licensing examination.
The current terminology recognized by decree of both NAVTA and the AVMA is Veterinary Technician. Whether you are an LVT(licensed veterinary technician), RVT (registered veterinary technician) or CVT (certified veterinary technician), the term used is mandatedby the technicians state of residence.
All veterinary technicians work under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian. While a veterinary technician can assist in performing a wide variety of tasks, they cannot diagnose, prescribe, perform surgery, or engage in any activity prohibited by a states veterinary practice act.
