During their conversation, Lennie reveals the secret about the farm, which Crooks initially thinks Lennie is making up. Crooks also prods Lennie about his relationship with George and scares Lennie by suggesting that George might not come back. The more Crooks presses Lennie, the more Lennie becomes scared and upset.
Slim is angry at Curley for constantly asking about his wife. Curley, on the defensive and looking for someone to fight, picks a fight with Lennie and punches him unmercifully. Lennie's puppy died because he handled it too roughly; he killed it. He knows George is going to be mad, and he thinks George won't let him tend the rabbits now. 2. Why did Curley's wife come to see Lennie?
In Chapter Four, it's Saturday night and most of the men have gone into the nearby town to go to a brothel , leaving behind Lennie, Candy and Crooks (a disabled man who works in the stables and is the only black man on the ranch), as well as Curley's wife. Lennie goes to Crooks' room in the stable.
Lennie has broken her neck. The barn goes still as Lennie realizes what he has done. He tries to bury Curley's wife in the hay, worrying chiefly that George will be angry with him.
In chapter 6, the last chapter of Of Mice and Men, Lennie has killed Curley's wife and run away to the place that George told him to meet him at if something bad happened. When Curley finds his wife dead, he gathers the other men to hunt down and kill Lennie.
In this chapter we learn that Curley is a mean little guy who was a boxer and who is recently married. He doesn't like Lennie right away, supposedly because Lennie is bigger than Curley. Curley's wife is pretty and she is also a flirt.
At the end of chapter 2, Lennie is as excited as a little child about Slim's puppies. Lennie wants George to ask Slim if he can have a brown and white puppy. Chapter 3 is about relationships. The author's purpose is to show how unusual George and Lennie's relationship is for this time period.
In chapter three, George tells Slim what happened in Weed between Lennie and a lady when he was feeling her skirt. The stable hand (Crook) comes in and Slim leaves with him. Then, some of the ranch workers go out and shoot Candy's dog to put it out of its misery.
Chapter 2 of `Of Mice and Men` is set in the bunkhouse on the ranch where the novel takes place. Candy shows George and Lennie to their bunks, and George is upset when he finds a can of lice-killer.
