The logs are held together using rebar, which they are hammered through, and then nailed from one log to the next. The rebar is used as a center point for all of the logs to be stacked into.
Log homes are great at maintaining temperature and conserving energy. This is due to the massiveness of the logs and their ability to absorb heat during the day and radiate it at night. This helps keep the home comfortable without having to rely as much on your HVAC.
Daily logs are used to track and monitor progress of an ongoing construction project. Usually the job foreman, superintendent, or project manager fills out the logs, collecting input for each day of work, taking note of everything that happens on site.
Daily logs are important because they help maintain a consistent account of significant events that happen every day. In a construction project, for example, the daily log can contain information about the weather, material deliveries, progress on the site, and any accidents or injuries.
A construction daily report is a log that lists the events that occurred during a work day on a construction site. This includes the weather conditions, material inventories and work performed, among other details.
In construction management, the daily log is a daily record of significant occurrences, incidents, and progress made on a jobsite. It is also used to track weather and manpower.
The cons? Log homes require more maintenance than other types of houses - though not as much as many people would imagine. The most important thing to keep in mind is that logs deteriorate over time without care and maintenance. Therefore, you will have to clean, re-stain and re-caulk your log home from time to time.
Every owner, contractor, subcontractor, engineer, superintendent, and foreman on a construction project should keep and maintain a daily diary that records their personal observations and conversations relating to the project.
Typically, if the span or depth between the logs is less than 1 inch then caulking should be used. Caulking can also be used to fill checks (i.e. horizontal cracks) in logs too. If the span or depth between the logs is greater than 1 inch then it's time to use chinking.
