It's not. They're two different keys that usually perform the same action, but not always. All keyboards have a dedicated Return key — it's the big key you're thinking of above the right Shift key. On a Mac, the key code when you press Return is 36, and the glyph for the key is ↵.
The Enter key was originally the "Return key" on a typewriter, which caused the carriage to return to the beginning of the next line on the paper.
Use your keyboard like a mouse Choose Apple menu  > System Preferences, then click Keyboard. Click Shortcuts. From the bottom of the preferences window, select the checkbox “Use keyboard navigation to move focus between controls.” (In macOS Mojave or earlier, this setting appears as an “All controls” button.)
On a Mac, you'll see a Return key in the main alphanumeric section of the keyboard and an Enter key in the numeric keypad section of extended keyboards.
Use the code displayed on your trusted device Sign in with your Apple ID and password on a new device or browser. Look for a sign-in notification on any of your trusted devices. Tap Allow to receive your verification code. Enter the verification code on your other device to complete the sign-in process.
To open Chrome dev tools with just F12 on a Mac: Open up System Preferences > Keyboard. Check the box marked "Use all F1, F2 etc. keys as standard function keys". Then go to the Shortcuts tab, and select App Shortcuts from the side menu.
Enter on Mac OS was sometimes used as an Action key, where Return was used to purely for text editing. So, in a text area on a form, you could input text with line breaks and press Enter to accept the form. These days the distinction has mostly been lost.
