Use double quotation marks () around a direct quote. A direct quote is a word- for-word report of what someone else said or wrote. You use the exact words and punctuation of the original. Harriet Jacobs writes, She sat down, quivering in every limb (61).
Direct Quotations Quotation marks always come in pairs. Capitalize the first letter of a direct quote when the quoted material is a complete sentence. Do not use a capital letter when the quoted material is a fragment or only a piece of the original materials complete sentence.
Although there arent any legal requirements for quotations, the quote should let the customer know exactly how much their requested product/service will cost. A quote should include: Your business name and address. The customers name and address.
Direct quotations If you are quoting from a website or webpage that does not have page numbers, you do not need to include anything to indicate this in the citation. Example: Language is subject to change, and is not caused by unnecessary sloppiness, laziness or ignorance (Aitchison, 1981, p. 67).
When making reference to the spoken words of someone other than the author recorded in a text, cite the name of the person and the name of the author, date and page reference of the work in which the quote or reference appears.
Citing: writing the authors surname, year of publication and, for direct quotations, page number to show where you found your direct quotation or paraphrased information. Referencing: refers to publications included in the list of references at the end.
When the annunciatory clause falls in the middle of a sentence, use a comma and closing quotation marks before it, and a comma and opening quotation marks after it.
In-text citations include the last name of the author followed by a page number enclosed in parentheses. Heres a direct quote (Smith 8). If the authors name is not given, then use the first word or words of the title.
Add an in-text citation at the end of the quote with the author name and page number, like this: Heres a direct quote (Smith 8). Heres a direct quote (Trouble 22). Note: The period goes outside the brackets, at the end of your in-text citation.
Narrative In-text Citation: List the authors last name only (no initials) and the year the information was published, like this: (Dodge, 2008). (Author, Date). IF you use a direct quote, add the page number to your citation, like this: (Dodge, 2008, p. 125). (Author, Date, page number)
