Contact us
It is important to have a job applicants current address available when conducting a background check. Companies that provide services for individuals report addresses voluntarily, but they may not have done so, or the information may be inaccurate.
If you are 100% relocating to a specific destination with or without a job, put your upcoming location on the application. If you are open to relocating, but its not a priority, put your current location on the application.
Heres our take: In virtually all cases, it is advised to at least give your current city, state, and zip code. Providing these details shouldnt hurt your chances as long as you frame it correctly, and can give your resume a valuable personal touch in a time of remote work and digital job applications.
So most people do know, in their contact section, to include their full name, their phone number, and email address so a recruiter can contact them. Definitely stay away from giving your full street address because thats a little dicey for privacy reasons. So just give the city and state that you live in.
When applying for work in a different city, you can either include your current address alongside your relocation address or simply state your relocation address. When relocating, the same rules apply for including a home address on your resume: Using a city and state is usually preferred to a complete street address.
Full mailing address Do not include your street address, as its not necessary at this stage of the recruitment process, takes up extra space, and can be considered a security risk (think of all the places you upload or post your resume hello, identity theft!).
❌ Listing an address is an outdated practice In most instances, employers only need your email or cellphone number to contact you. Simply put, modern technology makes listing your address on a resume unnecessary.
