The body of a press release should contain all the information the media outlet is being asked to publish. It should be separated from the headline by one space, as should each of its paragraphs. A press release should begin with a lead paragraph and conclude with a boilerplate.
This means using capital letters for the city and state or country names, a dash after the location, and a space before and after the dash. You should also use the month-day-year format for the date, with a comma after the year. For example, LOS ANGELES, CA - July 1, 2021 - XYZ Inc. launched its new product line today.
The standard elements of a press release: headline, dateline, lead, body, company info, media contact information. A specific audience that its targeted to and the news articles they read. Information on why your product is worth talking about and why anyone should be excited about it.
To start, here are the basics every press release should include: Your contact information located on the top left corner. The phrase For immediate release located on the top right. A headline that quickly explains the announcement. Your business location in the first sentence of the press release.
In a properly formatted AP style dateline, the name of the city and state is followed by the date the news was announced, enclosed in parentheses. Dates are formatted as month, day, year. Longer month names use the three- or four-letter abbreviations, shorter month names are fully spelled out.
Date and location The dateline usually appears in the first line of the body of a press release and is separated from the first sentence by an en dash with spaces. The dateline should list the city name in all caps, the abbreviated state name, and the full date (including year).
What is the format? All flushed to the left with no indentation. One inch margins all the way around. Double-space the actual text section of the release and only use one side of the page.
