Updating BIOS with BitLocker Caution: If BitLocker is not suspended, the next time you reboot the system it will not recognize the BitLocker key. You will then be prompted to enter the recovery key to progress, and the system will ask for this on each reboot.
The Resume-BitLocker cmdlet restores encryption on a volume that uses BitLocker Drive Encryption. You can use the Suspend-BitLocker cmdlet to allow users to access encrypted data temporarily. Data written to the volume continues to be encrypted, but the key to unlock the operating system volume is in the open.
Suspension of BitLocker does not mean that BitLocker decrypts data on the volume. Instead, suspension makes key used to decrypt the data available to everyone in the clear. New data written to the disk is still encrypted. While suspended, BitLocker does not validate system integrity at start up.
To access the BIOS press F2, F10 or the Del key as soon as the PC turns on (before Windows loads). The key you press depends on the BIOS manufacturer. The TPM (Trusted Platform Module) setting is usually in the Security section of the BIOS under [TPM Security]. Find it, and tick [enable].
Once the BIOS upgrade is complete, check the BitLocker Drive Encryption applet (steps 2 3) in the control panel for the encryption status of the drive. Since most BIOS upgrades require a restart, and a restart will usually cause windows to resume encryption on the drive, the drive may show that BitLocker is on.
You must temporarily disable BitLocker protection by using the Suspend protection feature for non-Microsoft software updates such as: Computer manufacturer firmware updates.
Microsoft Word (Windows) Choose the option Save as and then choosing Portable Document Format/PDF, but do not hit Save yet. A popup opens with various options to save the file. At the bottom, you will see the option to Encrypt the document with a password. Choose this option and click OK.
