Im here talking small business security with Mick grub crypt your own data so in one example there was a physical break-in in Seattle and they actually took an old laptop that wasnt encrypted and they used that to remotely access other systems because it had the VPN credentials and they were able to add themselves to the payroll system and for a while they were getting paid because they didnt have good oversight yeah and they had secret information kind of on these laptops so if you just encrypt your laptop which is built into Windows its built into Mac OS its called BitLocker on Windows yeah mine has a seven word password that I have to type in every time I turn it on well you dont even have to enable the password if you dont want if its just a key downstairs but it is best to use of Patricks then if somebody takes it they cant do anything with it its its rendered useless to them

The encryption of data in companies prevents information leaks and mitigates the cost of its impact. It is one of the best security solutions to protect sensitive information, but you must know what documents to encrypt and how to implement it effectively.
What Should You Encrypt? In broad terms, there are two types of data you should encrypt: personally identifiable information and confidential business intellectual property. Personally Identifiable Information (PII)PII includes any kind of information another person can use to uniquely identify you.
Common Data Encryption Methods The two most widely used methods for data encryption are public key, also known as asymmetric encryption and private key, or symmetric encryption. Both rely on key pairs, but they differ in the way the sending and receiving parties share the keys and handle the encrypt/decrypt process.
The purpose of an encryption policy is to establish, at a senior management level, the business and compliance expectations that the organization needs to meet. The policy serves as a starting point to define a suitable encryption strategy.
There are two main methods of encryption: symmetric encryption, which involves securing data with a single private key, and asymmetric encryption, which uses a combination of multiple keys that are both public and private.
Encryption policies define when encryption should or shouldnt be used and the encryption technologies or algorithms that are acceptable. For example, a policy might mandate that specific proven algorithms such as 3DES, RSA, or IDEA be used and prohibit use of proprietary or nonstandard algorithms.

A lack of understanding. Many firms dont encrypt content because they cant grasp the technology. Many businesses erroneously believe the security options they use are more than enough to protect the data they manage and store.
