The 12 questions from the Gallup Q12 Employee Engagement Survey are a quick and easy way to find out how engaged your employees are at work. Employees indicate their feelings and opinions on a scale from 1 to 5, helping you to gather insight into employee motivation and productivity.
Gallups 12-item engagement survey, referred to as the Q12, is the culmination of that research. Our employee engagement science and history researching the topic are unmatched. We know employee engagement (including the best way to measure it) and have been studying human nature and performance for over 75 years.
A general employee survey should contain up to 75 questions and take no longer than 20 to 30 minutes to complete. If the survey is too long, the response rate will likely be very low.

The average mean for Gallups 12 Question Survey is about 4.02, so if your total score is above 48, its considered a good score. Of course, the higher your score the better, so shoot to blow past it!
In general, a good Gallup engagement score is 50% and higher. With the recent findings indicating only an average of 35% within the United States workforce are engaged in their workplace, the number of 50% appears to be a good score. Everything below means the engagement is lagging.
