In generative grammar, embedding is the process by which one clause is included (embedded) in another. This is also known as nesting.
Embedding quotations is important because the reader can follow the paragraph more easily. This means that there should be no sentences composed entirely of a quotation, or the reader may find it difficult to connect the quotation to the point one wishes to make in the paragraph.
Embedded clauses are placed within the main clause in a sentence. They do not make sense as stand-alone sentences, unlike main clauses. For example: The giraffe, who was the tallest in the zoo, towered over the other animals.
In this example, each word (e.g., cat, dog, apple) is associated with a unique vector. The values in the vector represent the words position in a continuous 3-dimensional vector space. Words with similar meanings or contexts are expected to have similar vector representations.
These word embeddings show the power of vector arithmetic. The famous example is the equation king - man + woman queen. The vector for king, minus the vector for man and plus the vector for woman, is very close to the vector for queen.
Grammar. to insert (a construction, as a phrase or clause) into a larger construction, as a clause or sentence. to assign (a journalist) to travel with a military unit or a political campaign: Weve embedded a reporter with each of the presidential candidates.
