VERSE-MAPPING IS A METHOD OF STUDYING THE HISTORICAL CONTEXT, TRANSLITERATION, TRANSLATION, CONNOTATION, AND THEOLOGICAL FRAMEWORK OF A VERSE IN THE BIBLE. Simply put, Verse Mapping is getting real about studying the Bible.
(4) Use quotation marks accurately. If youre running a quoted Scripture verse into your text that has a quote within it, you will need to change the double quotes to single quotes, such as, Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6 NLT).
Parenthetical Citations: The first time you reference a version of the Bible, in the in-text citations, give the name of the edition (italicized), followed by a comma and the abbreviated book (see back of handout), chapter, and verse. Use a period, not a colon, between the chapter and verse: John 3.16.
When citing a passage of scripture, include the abbreviated name of the book, the chapter number, and the verse numbernever a page number. Chapter and verse are separated by a colon. Example: 1 Cor. 13:4, 15:12-19.
Quotation marks should begin and end your quoting of Scripture. The beginning quotation mark means this is where you start copying and then the end quotation mark means this is where you stop copying. A reminder that quotation marks mean you are copying word for word. Do not change anything.
Verse Mapping for Beginners Step 1: Read/Write the verse. Once you have your verse picked out, take some time to read the verse. Step 2: Context. Step 3: Choose 2-3 other translations. Step 4: Choose and research keywords. Step 5: Cross-references. Step 6: Application Reflection.
If you quote all or part of a single line of verse, put it in quotation marks within your text. The line Quoth the raven, Nevermore becomes a haunting refrain in Poes The Raven. You may also incorporate two or three lines in the same way, using a slash with a space on each side [ / ] to separate them.
