thereamp;#39;s a joke that you sometimes see and it looks like this there are kinds of people that understand binary numbers and the joke is that thatamp;#39;s not 10 thatamp;#39;s binary for two so the binary number system uses numbers zero and one and thatamp;#39;s it the decimal system uses numbers zero one two three four five six seven eight nine because we have zero one two three four five six seven eight nine fingers I think thatamp;#39;s why right so whatamp;#39;s so great about binary well binary you could represent what the light bulb right because I could say that light is on or that light is off so that which makes it so great for computers Iamp;#39;m going to show you in a later video how to read binary numbers and how to transfer from decimal to binary

Embedding quantization is the process of compressing high-dimensional embedding vectors into a more compact representation such as binary. Instead of storing each number in a 32-bit float, each value is reduced to a single bit - 0 for negative numbers and 1 for positive numbers.
To quantize float32 embeddings to binary, we simply threshold normalized embeddings at 0: if the value is larger than 0, we make it 1, otherwise we convert it to 0. We can use the Hamming Distance to efficiently perform retrieval with these binary embeddings.
Binary quantization (BQ), is a technique used to compress vectors. In Weaviate, it can be used to reduce the size of the in-memory HNSW index or the disk-based flat index. For HNSW, BQ can decrease its memory footprint and thus improve performance and reduce resource requirements as well as costs.
Quantization is the process of mapping continuous infinite values to a smaller set of discrete finite values. In the context of simulation and embedded computing, it is about approximating real-world values with a digital representation that introduces limits on the precision and range of a value.
Binary embeddings are a type of vector representation in which each dimension is encoded using a single binary digit, typically represented as either 0 or 1.
In image processing, embeddings might represent key features of an image that allow a model to generate similar but unique images. The role of embeddings in generative AI cannot be overstated. They serve as a bridge between the raw, often unstructured data and the sophisticated neural networks that process them.
Quantization is the concept that a physical quantity can have only certain discrete values. Electrical charge, energy, light, angular momentum, and matter are all quantized on the microscopic level.
