hello and welcome to this demonstration of gordon and sweets reticular stain so the first step in this staining protocol involves treatment of the slides with an acidified solution of potassium permanganate the popular theory is that this will actually oxidize some of the glycoproteins associated with the reticular fibres now having treated the tissue with the potassium permanganate when you rinse it off you will notice that there is a color change and in order to remove that color from the section you can just pick up a little bit there even on my blue glove we then subsequently treat the slide for a further one to two minutes in oxalic acid theoretically this might cause some further oxidation but thereamp;#39;s not much evidence for that okay so just put it on give a bit of a shake until itamp;#39;s pretty much lost its color then we rinse that off in tap water followed by deionized water so this is the first critical step now where itamp;#39;s essential to start removing

Simply use a lint-free rag soaked in mineral spirits or paint thinner to rub the areas of over-applicationwherever the stain has puddled or is thick and stickyto remove the excess stain. Areas of over-application may be noticeable because the stain is darker. Start with light pressure (this may be all you need).
Start by applying oil-based stain using a Purdy brush, wiping off the excess with a lint-free rag. Then, choose a secondary tone to achieve your custom look. Apply it with a brush, then use a rag to blend the colors together while wiping off the excess.
Semi-transparent: Cover the existing stain with a semi-transparent or solid stain. Solid: Apply another solid finish stain; a semi-transparent stain is engineered to bind with the surface of the wood and wont bind well to a solid surface.
Methyl violet supravital stain should be used for demonstration of inclusion bodies in splen- ectomized patients with unstable hemoglobin disease.
Specialty stains, called encapsulated stains, allow potters to get colors that were once not possible with traditional ceramic stains. These stain types, also known as inclusion stains or inclusion pigments, are zirconium silicate with cadmium sulfoselenide crystals (Ca/Se).
