You can attach multiple Multi-Attach enabled volumes to an instance or set of instances. Each instance to which the volume is attached has full read and write permission to the shared volume.
Attaching the Volume to an Instance Under Compute, click Instances. Click your instance name to view its details. In the Resources section, click Attached block volumes. Click Attach block volume.
In Computer Management, select [Disk Management]③. In Disk Management, right-click the existing volume you want to extend④, then select [Extend Volume]⑤. If there is no unallocated space, but you want to extend the existing volume, you are able to delete a separate volume, and then it will become unallocated space.
Connect to your EC2 Windows instance using Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP). Open a command prompt, and then run the diskmgmt. msc command to launch Disk Management. From Action, choose Refresh. Open the context (right-click) menu for the Volume, and then choose Extend Volume. Choose Next, Next, Finish.
Extend the file system of EBS volumes Check whether the volume has a partition. Use the lsblk command. Check whether the partition needs to be extended. In the lsblk command output from the previous step, compare the partition size and the volume size. Extend the partition. Verify that the partition has been extended.
Create a swap file Use the dd command to create a swap file on the root file system. Update the read and write permissions for the swap file: $ sudo chmod 600 /swapfile. Set up a Linux swap area: $ sudo mkswap /swapfile.
To attach an EBS volume to an instance using the console In the navigation pane, choose Volumes. Select the volume to attach and choose Actions, Attach volume. For Instance, enter the ID of the instance or select the instance from the list of options. For Device name, do one of the following: Choose Attach volume.
