There are three strategies you can use to embed quotations: set off quotations, build in quotations, or introduce quotations with a colon. Embedding a quotation means that the quotation is included in a single sentence with many of your own words and commentary. The most sophisticated embedded quotations have commentary before and after the words you are quoting (see example #3).
Introduction: This is some form of lead-in statement that introduces the quote and provides context for it. The Quote: This is the direct quote from the source. It should be accurately represented and within quotation marks. Citation: This is where you cite the source of your quote, usually in parenthetical format.
Introduce Quotations with a Colon This sentence provides some information about the quotation to introduce it.
