In this video demonstration, I will show you the fastest ways to create new DITA topics in oXygen and how to convert existing DITA documents to another type. For this purpose, we will use an existing gardening DITA project. The first method for quickly creating a new DITA topic in oXygen is to use the new document wizard. I could, of course, start this wizard with the toolbar button but at some point I would still need to add it to my DITA map structure so it is better to invoke the action from the contextual menu in the DITA Maps Manager and a reference to the new topic will be added to the DITA map ing to the context of my selection. First of all, what does DITA stand for? Its Darwin Information Typing Architecture, while XML stands for Extensible Markup Language. So DITA XML is not a tool but a language used by other tools to publish structured documentation. DITA is an architecture based on the original XML.
DITA is a power tool for technical writers who need to reuse content. Explore one popular DITA tool: Oxygen XML Editor.
DITA doesnt have an actual variables element, but you can use keyref to accomplish the same thing. A variable is a symbol that represents something else. You might use the variable productname so that if youre product name switches, you dont have to update all instances of the product name in your documentation.
While XML is a flexible markup language that allows you to define custom tags, DITA provides a set of predefined tags for creating structured documentation.
Content created using DITA is in XML format, making it machine-readable. DITA content is componentized, arranged in topics and maps, and most commonly stored in a component content management system (CCMS).
Inserting an image To insert an image, use the image tag and specify the placement attribute to set line wrapping. You can also choose placement=inline if youre inserting an image in the line of your sentence (such as a button image) or if you want text to flow around your image.
Oxygen XML Editor provides a validation function for DITA maps that does more than simply validating that the XML is well-formed. It also does the following: Validates all of the relationships defined in the maps. Validates all of the files that are included in the map.
Oxygen XML Editor is a powerful tool for creating, editing, and publishing technical documentation in various formats, such as HTML, PDF, EPUB, or DITA. It supports XML standards and schemas, and offers features such as validation, transformation, collaboration, and content reuse.
