Quotations from your sources should fit smoothly into your own sentences. This is called embedding or integrating quotations.
Creating the single quote symbol on a U.S. keyboard To create the quote symbol using a U.S. keyboard, press the single quote key, which is on the same key as the quote ( ) and typically to the left of Enter . Doing the Alt code Alt +39 can also create a single quote.
To disable smart quotes, On the File tab, click Options. Click Proofing, and then click AutoCorrect Options. In the AutoCorrect dialog box, do the following: Click the AutoFormat As You Type tab, and under Replace as you type, select or clear the Straight quotes with smart quotes check box. Click OK.

Choose Numbers Settings(from the Numbers menu at the top of your screen). Click Auto-Correction at the top of the settings window. In the Formatting section, select the Use smart quotes and dashes checkbox. Click the pop-up menus for double and single quotes, and choose a style for each.
Quotation marks are ALWAYS used in pairs, one at the beginning of the quoted text and one at the end. The same rule applies to titles and words used in a special sense or for emphasis. Use double quotation marks () around a direct quote. A direct quote is a word- for-word report of what someone else said or wrote.
