The XPS format is similar to PDF because both file types are designed to show the final appearance of a document and provide information for printing. However, XPS files are written in a different programming language.
XPS files can be used to archive and share files you routinely use for your business, such as contracts, receipts, memos, invoices or Web pages. The files are created by Microsoft XPS Document Writer, but can be opened by Microsoft XPS Viewer. You may access the Viewer directly, or open it through the file.
In the XPS view application, click File and select Print from the dropdown menu. Select Microsoft Print to PDF in the dialog box. Click Print.
To do this, click the File menu at the top of the viewer, select Open, and navigate to the file ending with the . xps file extension. Select the file and click Open to display it in the XPS Viewer. Double-clicking your XPS file on your computer will also open it immediately in the XPS viewer.
Microsoft XPS Document Writer comes pre-installed on Windows 10 and Windows 11, just press Ctrl + P to print/save an XPS file.
