So Ive been getting a lot of questions recently about how to better control page numbering in a Pages document. Sometimes you want to skip pages or have a cover page. So lets take a look at how to get exactly the page numbers that you want. Pages has, of course, two modes. Word Processing and Page Layout. Lets start by looking at Word Processing. Im going to create a blank document and Im going to paste in some text here to fill out the document. So as you can see Ive got a bunch of pages here. Lets go back to the top and add page numbering. As with most formatting features in Word, there is more than one way to insert page numbers into a document. Two reliable ways include using the Insert tab and double clicking in the header or footer, both of which are explained in this tutorial.
Use the Page field code to insert page numbers Go to Header Footer Field. In the Field names list, Select Page, and then select OK. To change the numbering format, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. Select the format you want, and then select OK.
Open the Format Page Numbers window by going to the Header Footer Tools Design tab on the menu, and in the Header Footer section, select Page Number Format Page Numbers. Next to Number format, select the i, ii, iii, option for lower-case Roman numerals, then click OK.
This is done by using the page counter in CSS, a pre-defined counter which represents the current page number. The page counter starts at 1 and increments automatically at each new page.
To do this, right-click anywhere in the report designer, and in the context menu point to Insert Band, and then click PageFooter.
On the Insert tab, click the Page Number icon, and then click Page Number. Select a location, and then pick an alignment style. Word automatically numbers every page, except designated title pages. To change the numbering style, select Format and then choose the formatting you want to use.
Page numbers are usually placed in the header, footer, or side margin. When you need to number some pages differently, Word allows you to restart page numbering.
How to add page numbers. Choose all your files to which you want to add page numbers. Configure the page numbers options and start the process. A few seconds later you can download your new PDF files with page numbers added.
