On your computer, open a spreadsheet in Google Sheets. Double-click the chart you want to change. At the right, click Customize. Legend. To customize your legend, you can change the position, font, style, and color.

Right-click the chart with the data series you want to rename, and click Select Data. In the Select Data Source dialog box, under Legend Entries (Series), select the data series, and click Edit. In the Series name box, type the name you want to use.
Add a chart legend Click the chart. Click Chart Elements. next to the table. Select the Legend check box. The chart now has a visible legend.
On the Design tab, in the Data group, click Select Data. In the Select Data Source dialog box, in the Legend Entries (Series) box, select the legend entry that you want to change. Click Edit. Tip: To add a new legend entry, click Add, or to remove a legend entry, click Remove.
Modify the legend appearance using the Configure Legend dialog box Right-click the Legend shape, and then click Configure Legend. In the Configure Legend dialog box, do any of the following: Show or hide particular legend symbols in the Legend shape using the check boxes under Visible. Click OK.
Customize a legend On the View menu, click Print Layout. Click the chart, and then click the Chart Design tab. Click Add Chart Element Legend. To change the position of the legend, choose Right, Top, Left, or Bottom.
To add a new legend entry, type the reference to the worksheet cell or type a new name and then, in the Series values box, type a reference to the data series on the worksheet that you want to use for the new legend entry.
In Excel, legend keys are linked to the data in the plot area, so changing the color of a legend key will also change the color of the data in the plot area. You can right-click or tap-and-hold on a legend key, and choose Format Legend, to change the color, pattern, or image used to represent the data.
