Use this walkthrough to embed index in WRD quickly

Bookmark Feature in Microsoft Word Select or highlight a location, picture, or text in your document. In the Insert tab on the ribbon menu, within the Links group select Bookmark. Type a name for your bookmark and click Add.
Select the text or object you want to use as a selectable hyperlink. Right-click and then select Link. Under Link to, click Place in This Document. In the list, select the heading or bookmark that you want to link to.
Select the range of text that you want to mark. On the Insert tab, in the Links group, click Bookmark. Enter a unique name for your bookmark and then click Add. On the References tab, in the Index group, click Mark Entry.
Mark the entries Select the text youd like to use as an index entry, or just click where you want to insert the entry. Go to References Mark Entry. You can edit the text in the Mark Index Entry dialog box. Select Mark to mark the index entry.
Bookmark the location Select text, a picture, or a place in your document where you want to insert a bookmark. Select the Insert tab and choose. Bookmark. On simplified ribbon, select the ellipsis () Under Bookmark name, type a name and click Add. Note: Bookmark names need to begin with a letter.
Click View Navigation Pane and to turn on the Navigation Pane. Only words that have a Heading setting will appear here. Click and hold to move them around, all text will move under that setting will also move.
