Below are some common questions from our customers that may provide you with the answer you're looking for. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us.

What is image credit? Image credit is where the image user gives attribution to the image owner. It serves two main purposes: It transparently showcases that the image does not belong to the user but is the visual property of a certain image owner.
Citation General Guidelines Image creators name (artist, photographer, etc.) Title of the image. Date the image (or work represented by the image) was created. Date the image was posted online. Date of access (the date you accessed the online image)
How can I use a copyrighted image? Paid licensing. A licensing fee is paid to use the image. Fair use. In the case of fair use, the copyrighted picture can only be used for educational, personal or research purposes, or if its beneficial to the public. Creative Commons (CC) Public domain.
If youre using it in a blog post or on your website, put the name of the creator and a link to their website or the source of the image beneath it. The format should be something like this: Photo by [artist name with their website hyperlinked] or Image by [artist name] via [website hyperlinked].
To make sure images are correctly attributed, include the following details and make sure they are clearly displayed by the relevant image (ideally directly underneath): Title: The title of the image. Author: The name of the creator. Source: The URL where the image is hosted (plus optional link to author profile).
Get permission, use public domain sources, and never just use photos from magazineseven adswithout changing it enough so that its definitely its own original work and not easy to tell what went into it.
Images must be cited like all other resources. If you use an image you did not create, you must provide a citation, even if the image is very small, or in the public domain.
Citing an image has nothing to do with fair use. Providing attribution for an artist or linking to an image offers you no protection against copyright infringement; it only helps you avoid plagiarism. To determine if you can use the image, see the four-factors of fair use, outlined at the top of this page.
