First, you clear the background color of all cells on the sheet by setting the ColorIndex property to 0. And then, you highlight the entire row and column of the active cell by setting their ColorIndex property to the index number for the desired color.

Create a cell style to highlight cells Click Home New Cell Styles. In the Style name box, type an appropriate name for the new cell style. Click Format. After you press F5, a pop-up window appears asking which words in Excel you want to highlight. Enter the text you want the program to highlight in this dialog box. Press the OK button. Your Excel spreadsheet should now show highlighted text in every cell that contains your chosen words.
In the Rule Description field, enter the formula: =OR(CELL(col)=COLUMN(),CELL(row)=ROW()) Click on the Format button and specify the formatting (the color in which you want the row/column highlighted). Click OK.
To select a range, select a cell, then with the left mouse button pressed, drag over the other cells. Or use the Shift + arrow keys to select the range. To select non-adjacent cells and cell ranges, hold Ctrl and select the cells.
