okay in this video Im going to quickly show you how to create a running head or a header in APA format first were going to go to the insert and were going to insert a page number drop down to top of page were going to insert plane number three the next thing we need to do is click this box here that says different first page because in APA format the header on the first page is going to be slightly different than the header on the rest of the pages Im going to go scroll back up here to the first page very first page of your document the title page goes like this you need to insert a page number again top of page plain number three and then youre going to type the words running head please notice that running is capitalized and the word head is not capitalized this is going to be followed by a colon followed by a space and then Im going to type the title of the paper in all caps okay once I do that I need to hit the tab button maybe once maybe twice it depends on how long your ti

Avoid having only one subsection heading within a section, just like in an outline. Do not label headings with numbers or letters. Double-space headings; do not switch to single spacing within headings. Do not add blank lines above or below headings, even if a heading falls at the end of a page.
The only reason your running head is disappearing is because youre using the top of page page numbering option to apply the numbering. Select the position you want the page # to appear at abd use the current position page numbering option instead.
At the top of the page, under Header and Footer Tools, click the box that says Different first page. In the Header, type Running head: and then your abbreviated title in all caps. Tab over twice and type in the numeral 1.
Select the Header section of your document by going to the insert tab OR you can double click at the top of the page for header section to pop up. In the Header Footer tools design tab, check the box next to Different first page. To insert a page number on your first page: go to the Header Footer group.
Answer Click on the Insert tab. Click on Page Number in the Header Footer group. Choose the location of page number (usually top of page). ​ The header will open and the page number is inserted. Your name and subsequent page numbers will now appear on all pages of your document.
