Content created using DITA is in XML format, making it machine-readable. DITA content is componentized, arranged in topics and maps, and most commonly stored in a component content management system (CCMS).
To link to another topic or external site inline, you use the xref element. As a general best practice, people say to avoid inline links if possible, but if referring to another topic or page, it might seem odd not to include the link. The topic title will automatically be used as the anchor text for the link.
Description. The XRef element forms a cross-reference from the location of the XRef to the element to which it points. Unlike Link and the other cross-referencing elements, XRef is empty. The processing system has to generate appropriate cross-reference text for the reader.
The linking attribute allows you to specify whether a link should appear in only one of the topics within a relationship. A topic can only be linked to and cannot link to other topics. A topic cannot be linked to but can link to other topics. A topic can be linked to and can link to other topics.
The DITA Style Guide provides comprehensive, practical explanations of DITA elements and attributes. Real-world examples and clear recommendations show you how to create consistent, semantically-correct DITA content. A style guide provides advice on the optimal use of approaches, procedures and processes.
Inserting an image To insert an image, use the image tag and specify the placement attribute to set line wrapping. You can also choose placement=inline if youre inserting an image in the line of your sentence (such as a button image) or if you want text to flow around your image.
