To increase the readability of your proposal and to prevent it from looking too busy, its best to use no more than three fonts in your proposal template. A suggested list is: Arial for headings (e.g., font size 16 for Heading 1 and size 13 for Heading 2) Times New Roman 12 point for body text.
First and foremost, your proposal needs to be readable. Avoid using cursive or hard-to-read fonts, too much color, underlining of non-links, small spacing, or other distractions. While few donors have strict guidelines on formatting, 12 pt. font in Arial or Times New Roman with 1.5 spacing is fairly standard.
When not specified, its best to stick with a standard font that everyone is familiar with so its easy to read. The most common proposal fonts are Arial (or some variation, such as Arial Narrow) or Times New Roman.
If you must boast, prove it in words and with statistics. Dont overuse boilerplate material, and fine tune it to the customer. Dont write a novel; use simple, easy to understand language, avoid long-winded sentences, and run-on paragraphs.
Most people agree that a simple Arial Black or Verdana as a font for headings will give your proposal a clean and professional look. Avoid loud fonts such as Goudy Stout.
Helvetica. Helvetica isnt all but crowned the most popular font in advertising for no reason. This sans serif font is crisp, clean and neutral and was first used in advertisements dating back to the 1950s.
If your RFP response will likely be distributed by the issuer digitally, I recommend a sans-serif font, like Arial. While the debate is ongoing, generally designers believe that these simple fonts are best for digital reading.
