Typically, word embedding relies on the local context surrounding particular words. But, since text embedding considers an entire text as a context, it is broader than word embedding.
There are three strategies you can use to embed quotations: set off quotations, build in quotations, or introduce quotations with a colon. Set-off quotations are set off from the sentence with a comma. Capitalize the first word of the quote.
The quote can be embedded like this: John exhibits his true feelings for Sarah when she finds him waiting at her door with her favorite flowers and a sorrowful expression on his face (Doe 75). This quote would then be followed by more analysis of Johns feelings for Sarah.
A text embedding is a piece of text projected into a high-dimensional latent space. The position of our text in this space is a vector, a long sequence of numbers. Think of the two-dimensional cartesian coordinates from algebra class, but with more dimensionsoften 768 or 1536.
These words and phrases are directly copied from the original text. You can copy selected words and phrases from an authors work if you put quotation marks around them. These embedded quotations are called evidence because they illustrate or prove a statement you make about the authors writing.
The definition and purpose of embed can be vague based on what the subject matter is. But in general, embedding is a process where you insert one file or object into another file or a platform. It can be any kind of file text, sound, photos, video, and more.
In other words, text embeddings allow us to take a huge corpus of unstructured text and turn it into a structured form, making it possible to objectively compare, dissect, and derive insights from all that text. In the coming chapters, well dive deeper into these topics.
1. : to enclose in or as if in a surrounding mass : set solidly in or as if in a bed. embed a post in concrete. 2. : to prepare (material for use under a microscope) for cutting by infiltrating with and enclosing in a supporting substance (as paraffin)
