XML supports comments that are used to provide information to a human about the actual XML content. They are not used to encode actual data. Comments can appear as children of the elements.
No, there is no way to comment a line in XML and have the comment end automatically on a linebreak. XML forbids -- in comments to maintain compatibility with SGML. A workaround is to use line comments ( // ) and run a script to strip out those comments before use (can be part of a singe-step build process).
Commenting out an entire XML block using CTRL+ / comments each line separately instead of creating a block comment. Select the entire block of xml and hit CTRL+/ to comment the entire block.
The syntax for adding XML comments in your code is triple slashes /// followed by one of the supported XML tags.
some combination of two modifier keys and C :-) Apparently CTRL+/ and CTRL+C (also with the shift modifier for BLOCK comments) both work in XML files.
A comment can include any combination of characters from the representable character set, including newline characters, but excluding the "end comment" delimiter (*/). Comments can occupy more than one line but can't be nested.
No, this isn't possible. Comments are not allowed in an XML open tag. See How do I comment attributes inside an XML tag? Save this answer. Show activity on this post.

You Can't Place a Comment Before the XML Declaration Even though the XML declaration isn't required in the 1.0 version of XML, when you do include it, it has to be the first thing that appears in the file. The implication of this rule is that you can't place a comment before the XML declaration.
