How to Convert Your Certificates and Keys to PEM Using OpenSSL OpenSSL: Convert CRT to PEM: Type the following code into your OpenSSL client: openssl x509 -in cert.crt -out cert.pem. OpenSSL: Convert CER to PEM. openssl x509 -in cert.cer -out cert.pem. OpenSSL: Convert DER to PEM. openssl x509 -in cert.der -out cert.pem.
You can use the open source utility OpenSSL to perform the conversion from PFX to PEM. Download a Win32 distribution of OpenSSL from Win32 OpenSSL . You might also need C++ redistributable files if you want to use OpenSSL .
PEM stands for Privacy Enhanced Mail. The PEM format is often used to represent certificates, certificate requests, certificate chains, and keys. The typical extension for a PEMformatted file is . pem , but it doesnt need to be.
A Personal Information Exchange (. pfx) Files, is password protected file certificate commonly used for code signing your application. It derives from the PKCS 12 archive file format certificate, and it stores multiple cryptographic objects within a single file: X.
pem is the private key, cacert. pem is the CA certificate and pkcs12. pfx is the pkcs12 file that will be created. The command may asks for a password to decrypt the private key and will ask for a new password to encrypt the private key inside the pkcs12.
crt is the certificate produced by the certificate authority that verifies the authenticity of the key. (The key itself is not included.) This is given to other parties, e.g. HTTPS client. . pem is a text-based container using base-64 encoding.
