Some applications will implement SSL Pinning, which prevents the application from accepting your intercepting certificate as a valid certificate. This means that you will not be able to monitor the traffic between the application and the server.
Navigate to securly.com/ssl and download the certificate by clicking Download the certificate. Open your Settings app and navigate to General VPN Device Management. Tap the securly.com profile that you downloaded in step 1. Next tap the button in the top right hand corner.
What Are the Benefits of Certificate Pinning? Certificate pinning offers protection against a remote man-in-the-middle attack, compromised certificate authorities and invalid issuance of a certificate, CA mistakes, reverse engineering, thwart unauthorized malware on the device.
Certificate pinning is a security mechanism used in the context of authenticating client-server connections, particularly in the context of secure communication over HTTPS (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) or other TLS (Transport Layer Security) protocols.
Add a trusted SSL certificate to your sensor or console Click Enter API Key and then paste or type your API key into the API Key field. Click Authorize and then click Close. Click ExtraHop and then click PUT/extrahop/sslcert. Click Try it out. In the Certificate and Key field, paste the SSL certificate.
Open the document you wish to insert the certificate into. Select the Insert tab in the top navigation bar. Select Pictures and locate the certificate file on your computer. Select the certificate file and click Insert to add it to the document. Resize and adjust the certificate as desired. Save the document.
Then there is certificate pinning. It validates the whole certificate, so this implementation is more secure, since even a small change in the certificate will cause an issue. It has an expiration date, so every time you create a new certificate you have to upload a new version of the app.
Certificate pinning is something that you would choose to do within your source code. You would do this by hard coding your SSL certificates thumbprint into your code. If you review your source code and see any thumbprints being mentioned, then you are likely using certificate pinning.
