Import captions directly into a project in the timeline Open an existing project in the Final Cut Pro timeline. Choose File Import Captions. In the dialog that appears, navigate to the file you want to import, and select the file. The file must be a valid CEA-608, iTT, or SRT caption file.
Select Roles in the export window. Click the Captions icon and select Burn in Captions. Once you hit OK, it will close the window. Choose File then Export as normal.
To change caption text to the bold, italic, or underline style, click a Formatting button. To change the color of caption text, click the Text Color color well to open the Colors window, or click the down arrow to open a pop-up color palette.
If you dont see any caption roles, it means you havent yet added captions to your project. See Create captions in Final Cut Pro for Mac. Do one of the following: Show or hide all captions in the timeline: Click the Show Captions button on the right side of the main Captions bar.
To embed subtitles into a video permanently, you need an srt file of the subtitles alongside a video editor that can overlay it. iMovie, ContentFries, VideoPad, docHub Premiere Pro, and VLC Media Player are all capable of doing that. You must choose the one that makes content creation most convenient for you.

A new caption clip appears at the top of the timeline (in a dedicated caption lane), and the caption editor opens.
