Choose PDF if you want to save your publication in a format that can be easily shared and is used by many commercial printers. Choose XPS if you want to save your publication with even greater compression than PDF format. Read more about PDF and XPS formats.
XPSView allows you to open and read XPS (XML Paper Specification, *. xps) and OpenXPS (*. oxps) documents on iOS device. It offers you fantastic reading experience using document outlines, page thumbnails and text search features.
XPS stands for XML Paper Specification. Thats because it contains page layout information written in the XML page description language. Essentially, this type of language describes the structure and content of a document, including its layout and appearance, making it suited for printing for example.
As a form of electronic paper, the XPS format provides a way in which you can easily create, share, print and save digital documents. Although XPS documents can be easily created once you have the right software installed, just like the PDF, the XPS format is a difficult-to-handle format.
The XPS format is similar to PDF because both file types are designed to show the final appearance of a document and provide information for printing. However, XPS files are written in a different programming language.
One key difference between the two is the ease of editing. You can edit PDF documents using docHub Pro, an application docHub offers expressly for this use. However, Microsoft does not offer a similar editing function in XPS Viewer or Microsoft Reader.
Windows 11 and 10 can open XPS files using Microsofts Reader app. You can use Pagemark to open XPS files on a Mac and the Pagemark XPS Viewer plug-in for Firefox and Safari web browsers.
Identification and description. Full name. Microsoft XML Paper Specification, (XPS) Description. The XPS (XML Paper Specification) format, developed by Microsoft, serves as a fixed-page document format, a spool file format, and a page description language (PDL) for printers.
