Lets see some examples: What time did you eat ? Embedded question: I wonder what time you ate . The auxiliary verb is removed and the past tense is reflected in the main verb.
An embedded question is simply a question tucked inside another one! Embedded questions can cause confusion for English language learners because they follow a normal Subject-Verb-Object pattern instead of a typical inverted question pattern.
By placing the helping verbs (will, can, have) after the subject, you can rephrase a question into a statement. For example, Can cookies track your behavior on every platform? can become Cookies can track your behavior on every platform.
Embedded Answers (Cloze) questions consist of a passage of text that has various answers embedded in it. These answers can be in a multiple choice, short answer or numerical format. When creating the passage of text, instructors will need to be aware of the specific formatting rules for each embedded answer.
1:00 4:28 Question word auxiliary verb subject main verb object are they here what did you say do you likeMoreQuestion word auxiliary verb subject main verb object are they here what did you say do you like green curry in an embedded. Question the question inside the statement follows a traditional sentence
Embedded questions are introduced by whether, whether or not, and if when there is no question word in the sentence (yes/no questions). Will he be there? Do you know if he will be there? Do you know whether or not he will be there?
It might look awkward to some, but the laws of grammar state that when multiple questions are asked in the same sentence, a ? can be used in place of a comma to indicate multiple questions.
