Use the Styles pane when you want to change or add CSS declarations to an element. Right-click the Add a background color to me! text below and select Inspect. Click element. style near the top of the Styles pane. Type background-color and press Enter . Type honeydew and press Enter .
Like HTML, CSS can be developed in a simple text editor like TextEdit, BBEdit or Notepad. Or you can use an HTML editor like Visual Studio Code, Atom, Sublime Text, Komodo Edit or Notepad++. You can apply CSS in three different ways: Within an element: add the style attribute to any element.
The :first-of-type selector in CSS allows you to target the first occurence of an element within its container. It is defined in the CSS Selectors Level 3 spec as a structural pseudo-class, meaning it is used to style content based on its relationship with parent and sibling content.
Follow these steps to create an external style sheet. Start with an HTML file that contains an embedded style sheet, such as this one. Create a new file and save it as StyleSheet. Move all the CSS rules from the HTML file to the StyleSheet. Remove the style block from the HTML file.
CSS can help us style the first letter of an element using the ::first-letter pseudo-element. Note that punctuation marks, digraphs and content property can change the first-letter.
The text-transform CSS property specifies how to capitalize an elements text. It can be used to make text appear in all-uppercase or all-lowercase, or with each word capitalized.
Try it p::first-letter { font-size: 1.5rem; font-weight: bold; color: brown; }
There are 3 distinct methods for styling in CSS, Local style, Page-Level style, and External Styles. Each level of styling is given a different hierarchical priority (when to apply) and is used for different reasons.
In CSS, ::after creates a pseudo-element that is the last child of the selected element. It is often used to add cosmetic content to an element with the content property. It is inline by default.
The location order of precedence is: browser default rules, external style sheet rules, embedded styles, and inline style rules. Specific rules take precedent over more general rules.
