If the VM is running, in the menu at the top of the page, select Stop to stop the VM. To edit the VM, click edit Edit. In the Machine configuration section, select the machine type that you want to use, or create a custom machine type. To save your changes, click Save.
You can't change the instance type of a Spot Instance. If your instance is in an Auto Scaling group, the Amazon EC2 Auto Scaling service marks the stopped instance as unhealthy, and may terminate it and launch a replacement instance.
To edit an instance's configuration Stop the instance, if it is not already stopped. On the Instances page, click an instance name to display the Details page. Click Edit to display the edit page. Edit the instance's configuration, as appropriate.
They can't delete, share, or modify it. However, after they have launched an instance using your AMI, they can then create an AMI from the instance they launched.

This is an AWS-reserved tag that you cannot modify manually. Almost all CloudFormation stacks use a template that allows you to enter the AMI ID as a parameter during the stack update by using the following steps: Navigate to AWS Console –> Services –> CloudFormation –> StackName –> Update Stack.
To create a custom AMI Choose Launch Instance. Choose Community AMIs. If you identified a base Elastic Beanstalk AMI (using describe-platform-version ) or an Amazon Linux AMI, enter its AMI ID in the search box. ... Choose Select to select the AMI. Select an instance type, and then choose Next: Configure Instance Details.
Update AMI Navigate to AWS Console –> Services –> EC2 –> Auto Scaling –> Launch Configurations. Select a LC –> Copy launch configuration. Click Edit AMI. Click Create launch configuration.
You can't change the instance type of an instance that has an instance store root volume. Instead, you must create an AMI from your instance, launch a new instance from this AMI and select the instance type that you want, and then migrate your application to the new instance.
