The state of a component can be updated during the lifetime.The steps are discussed below. Go inside the App. At the top of the App. Create a Class based component named App. Create a state object named text, using this. Create another method inside the class and update the state of the component using this.
To change a value in the state object, use the this.setState() method. When a value in the state object changes, the component will re-render, meaning that the output will change ing to the new value(s).
To update the state, call the state updater function with the new state setState(newState) . Alternatively, if you need to update the state based on the previous state, supply a callback function setState(prevState = newState) .
import React, { useState } from react; // The useState hook (function) returns a getter (variable) setter (function) for your state value - and takes the initial/default value for it/to set it to, e.g. const [ firstName, setFirstName ] = useState();
The setState() Method State can be updated in response to event handlers, server responses, or prop changes. This is done using the setState() method. The setState() method enqueues all of the updates made to the component state and instructs React to re-render the component and its children with the updated state.
To make the state change, React gives us a setState function that allows us to update the value of the state. Calling setState automatically re-renders the entire component and all its child components. We dont need to manually re-render as seen previously using the renderContent function.
