The default size for a log file is 512000 (500KiB) which can generally hold between 2000-3000 log entries but varies by entry size. The time span covered by logs depends entirely on how much data is logged. A quiet log file could contain months or even years of information, a busy log file may only contain minutes.
When the transaction log becomes full, SQL Server Database Engine issues a 9002 error. The log can fill when the database is online, or in recovery. If the log fills while the database is online, the database remains online but can only be read, not updated.
Click Open/Close Log File on the Edit menu to write to a new log file, append to an existing log file, or close an open log file.
To increase the size of a transaction log file In the development environment, on the File menu, choose Database, and then choose Alter. Choose the Transaction Log Files tab. Select the transaction log file that you want to expand. In the Size (MB) field, enter the new size.

Use ls command for files and du command for directories. ls command will not list the actual size of directories(why?). Therefore, we use du for this purpose. There are three types of log files: 1. Request log files that document the execution of a concurrent program running as the result of a concurrent request. Every concurrent request generates a log file.
A good STARTING POINT for your log file is twice the size of the largest index in your database, or 25% of the database size. Whichever is larger.
Large database transactions, such as importing large amounts of data, can lead to a large transaction log file. Transaction log backups not happening fast enough causes the SQL log file to become huge. SQL log files also enlarge due to incomplete replication or availability group synchronization.
