After opening Word, navigate to File and select Open to choose the receipt document. Within the Home tab, use its tools to make changes, adjust text and formatting, and insert/delete elements. For PDF receipts, consider UPDF for more flexibility in editing.
At a minimum, your business should shred the receipts. The Internal Revenue Service advises that you keep any documentation of decoctions and income for at least 3 years. But keeping credit card receipts is not mandatory as long as you have other documentation such as your deposit records.
Laws ask restaurants to keep records. This is to make sure restaurants report all their income. If they dont, it can be a problem called tax fraud. Receipts can be paper or digital.
If you are not offered one, ask for it. Most restaurant computers will produce chit or slip of paper with you cash transaction, in the case of a credit card a duplicate printout comes with your bill.
No matter how youre making your receipt, every receipt you issue should include: The number, date, and time of the purchase. Invoice number or receipt number. The number of items purchased and price totals. The name and location of the business the items have been bought from. Any tax charged. The method of payment.
The general rule of thumb is to keep business receipts for as long as the IRS can audit your records. Usually, the IRS audits three years worth of records. Keep your business receipts for at least three years in case you need to show proof of purchases or sales.
Is there a way to get an itemized receipt from a restaurant? Yes, restaurants are quick to provide such receipts and since theyre computerized, you can always phone the restaurant several days later and, with the date and exact time from the totaled receipt, you should be able to secure a copy of the itemized one.
