Apple is paying this settlement for actions affecting the performance of older iPhone models after an upgrade. It is disbursing between $310 million and $500 million in cash to claimants, each of whom is getting roughly $92.
Eligible claimants must have resided in Canada as of June 15, 2023, not including Quebec, where a separate lawsuit is happening, and have owned and or purchased an iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, SE, 7 or 7 Plus smartphone device with iOS 10.2.1 or later (for iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6s, 6s Plus, or SE) and or iOS 11.2 or
Now you can submit a claim for up to $150 from Apple. A settlement of a class-action lawsuit, worth up to $14.4 million for eligible iPhone users, was approved by the B.C. Supreme Court last month.
The payments come from a class-action lawsuit that was filed against Apple in 2020. It alleged the company intentionally slowed down the performance and battery life of some older iPhones through software updates. Apple did not admit liability or wrongdoing as part of the settlement.
Some Verizon customers could be eligible for part of a proposed $100 million class action settlement. The lawsuit, which was filed in New Jersey, alleges customers who had some of the networks monthly plans were charged undisclosed administration fees in a deceptive and unfair manner.
Verizon will pay $100 million into a fund to settle claims over a misleading administrative charge if the agreement is approved.
The class action also alleged defects caused the iPhones to prematurely age, degrade and shut down unexpectedly as well as battery problems. Apple has denied these allegations but has agreed to pay between $11.1 million and $14.4 million under the settlement. This class action was certified in June 2023 by the B.C.
All eligible class members who meet these criteria have until Sept. 2, 2024, to submit their claims online. They can do so by filling out a form on the settlement website. If people are unsure that this class action applies to them, they can confirm by entering their serial number on the settlement website.
