To create a consistent first line indent for each paragraph in your paper, start by hitting enter/return after your title and left align the next line. Avoid manually hitting tab and use the ruler feature. Go to View and check the ruler box if necessary. With your cursor left aligned, move the first line indent marker on the ruler to half an inch. This will automatically indent the first line of each paragraph while keeping subsequent lines aligned. When you hit enter/return to start a new paragraph, the first line indent will apply automatically.
