Hi everyone, Kevin here. Today we are going to look at page numbers in Microsoft Word. Were going to start with the absolute basics of how you even just get a page number onto every single page in Word. Then well look at some more advanced topics like how you start your page numbers from a specific page. To follow along, Ive included a sample document down below in the description. Lets check this out. Here I am in Microsoft Word, and I want to add page numbers to this document. To insert page numbers, up on the top tabs, lets click on the insert option. Over on the right-hand side, lets click on page number and here we see several different options. We can insert a page number at the top of the page and here we can left align it, center align it, or right align it, and if I scroll down, we see a number of different options. You can even add page one of one or one of however many pages you have, and here you have some different formats. I could add a page num

To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format. To change the starting page number of the newly created section, select Start at, and then enter a number. Select OK.
Double click the header or footer where the numbers are, then click Page Number and Format Page Numbers. Click the Start at drop-down and choose the number you want to start numbering. Repeat this for each section where you wan to customize the numbering.
Click your cursor on any page in the numbered section. Then, either head to the Header Footer section of the Insert tab or double-click the header, footer, or margin where the page number is. This will open the Header Footer ribbon. Click the Page Number dropdown and select Format Page Numbers.
Now highlight the page number at which you want to start the numbering. From the Header Footer Tools menu, unclick Link to Previous. With the number still highlighted, choose Page Number from the top menu, then select Format Page Numbers. Under Page Numbering, choose Start At and then select a starting number.
Go to Insert Page Number, and then choose Remove Page Numbers. If the Remove Page Numbers button isnt available or if some page numbers are still there, double-click in the header or footer, select the page number, and press Delete.
To reset page numbers, go to Insert Page Number Remove Page Numbers. Do this for each section. To adjust page numbering, go to Insert Page Number Format Page Numbers. Make sure Start at is set to 1.
How to remove page numbers from the first page only in Word Click Header. Select Edit Header. Open the Design tab. Check Different First Page from the Options group. Choose Close Header and Footer. Double-click on the header or footer containing the page number. Highlight and delete the page number.
7. To ensure your pages begin with 1, go to the Insert tab Page Number. Select Format Page Numbers Page numbering Start at and add 1.
Insert page numbers Select Insert Page Number, and then choose the location and style you want. If you dont want a page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.
To do this, go to the page where you want numbering to start and click Layout then click Breaks and Next Page. Double-click the header or footer where you want the page numbers to appear, and in the menu that pops up, uncheck the Link to Previous button, then click Page Number and pick the settings you want.
