Set a different number for the starting page On the Layout tab, under Page Setup, click Header Footer. Add page numbers in the format that you want. Click Customize Header or Customize Footer, depending on where the page numbers appear.
To use this feature, make sure your document is in pages format. Open a Google Doc. In the top left, click Insert. Page number. Then, click either: Page number: Choose where you want the page numbers to go. Page count: The page count is added wherever your cursor is placed in the document.
Start page numbering later in your document Go to Insert Header or Footer Edit Header or Edit Footer. Select Different First Page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit.
Now highlight the page number at which you want to start the numbering. From the Header Footer Tools menu, unclick Link to Previous. With the number still highlighted, choose Page Number from the top menu, then select Format Page Numbers. Under Page Numbering, choose Start At and then select a starting number.
Insert page numbers Select Insert Page Number, and then choose the location and style you want. If you dont want a page number to appear on the first page, select Different First Page. If you want numbering to start with 1 on the second page, go to Page Number Format Page Numbers, and set Start at to 0.
To choose a format or to control the starting number, go to Header Footer Page Number Format Page Numbers. To change the numbering style, select a different style in Number format. To change the starting page number of the newly created section, select Start at, and then enter a number. Select OK.
