There are two types of ACLs: Filesystem ACLs━filter access to files and/or directories. Filesystem ACLs tell operating systems which users can access the system, and what privileges the users are allowed. Networking ACLs━filter access to the network.
Syntax: To find the sequence number of the ACE you want to delete, use show run or show access-list name-str |1-99|100-199 to view the ACL. Use ip access-list to enter the Named-ACL ( nacl ) context of the ACE. In the Named-ACL context, type no and enter the sequence number of the ACE you want to delete.
How to Modify ACL Entries on a File Modify ACL entries on a file by using the setfacl command. $ setfacl -m acl-entry-list filename -m. Modifies the existing ACL entry. acl-entry-list. Verify that the ACL entries were modified on the file by using the getfacl command. $ getfacl filename.
No matter whether you use a name or a number for the ACL, the ACL functions the same way. As far as functionality is concerned, named ACLs and numbered ACLs are the same. The main advantage of a named ACL over a numbered ACL is that a named ACL is easier to manage and remember than a numbered ACL.
To create and modify extended access lists on a WAAS device for controlling access to interfaces or applications, use the ip access-list extended global configuration command. To disable an extended access list, use the no form of the command.
Use the Named ACL context to enter the ACL. Using show run or show access-list list-name config , note the sequence number and content of the ACE having a remark you want to remove. Delete the ACE. Using the same sequence number, re-enter the ACE.
Each line of an ACL is assigned a sequence number (SN) by default. The first line is given SN 10, and each subsequent lines SN increments by 10. These sequence numbers allow us to enter a line and have it placed in the ACL anywhere we like, rather than it always being tacked on at the bottom.
To configure an extended named ACL, enter the ip access-list extended command. The options at the ACL configuration level and the syntax for the ip access-group command are the same for numbered and named ACLs and are described in Extended numbered ACL configuration and Extended numbered ACL configuration.
Using numbered ACLs is an effective method for determining the ACL type on smaller networks with more homogeneously defined traffic. However, a number does not provide information about the purpose of the ACL. For this reason, starting with Cisco IOS Release 11.2, a name can be used to identify a Cisco ACL.
