Hi everyone, my name is Kevin. Today I want  to show you how you can edit a PDF using   Microsoft Word, and as full disclosure before  we jump into this, I work at Microsoft as a   full-time employee. All right, well  let's jump on the desktop. Here I   am on my desktop, and I have  a PDF file called certificate. I'm going to go ahead and click on that and I  have this nice certificate that I found online. It's a PDF file and I run a company and I  have some employees who I want to celebrate. You know, instead of giving people a  pay raise, I'm just going to give him   this paper certificate and hopefully that  makes them satisfied with this company. No, really, I'd probably just give him  more money, I think that makes people happy   and maybe throw the certificate in too, but here's  the certificate and unfortunately, it's a PDF and   I can't edit the name of the recipient. I can't  type anything down here. I can't type in a date.   It's kind of annoying how it's hard to edit PDFs, ...

It is not illegal to alter a contract once it has been signed. However, it must be materially changed, meaning that if an important part of the contract is altered by the change, it must be made by mutual consent of both parties.
An amendment is typically used to change something that's part of an original contract. Think of amendments as modifications to the earliest agreement (for example, altering an agreed-upon deadline). An addendum is used to clarify and add things that were not initially part of the original contract or agreement.
The mistake will render the contract void if it robs it of all substance. Mutual mistake (where the parties are at cross-purposes with one another). If, from the parties' words and conduct, only one possible interpretation of what was agreed can be deduced, the contract will still be valid. Otherwise it will be void.
You can make changes directly on the contract by using a redline or strikethrough method. This is a more informal way to make changes to contracts, but it is normally effective. You simply cross out the language that no longer applies and re-write the language that should be applicable.
A contract amendment is a change, correction, clarification, or deletion to an agreement you have already signed. An amendment leaves your original agreement substantially intact.
There are several reasons why you may need to amend an existing contract, including to: fix a mistake, like a spelling error or incorrect figure; delete a provision which is no longer relevant; delete and replace a provision where circumstances have changed;
Once a contract has been signed, you typically cannot change it unless all parties to the contract agree to the modifications. There are many reasons why you might want to modify a contract. Those would include: Extending it (for instance, lengthen a one-year contract by another six months);

The initial contract is not altered or replaced by addendums.
