The two stages of data storage are parsing and indexing. The Splunk programme adds parsed events to the index on the disc during the indexing phase. Both the relevant index file and the compressed raw data are written. The data can be quickly retrieved during searches thanks to indexing.
Internal This index is where Splunks internal logs and processing metrics are stored. audit This index contains events related to the file system change monitor, auditing, and all user history.
