Index Index (indices) in Maths is the power or exponent which is raised to a number or a variable. Example: 23 = 2 2 2 = 8. Rule 1: If a constant or variable has index as 0, then the result will be equal to one, regardless of any base value. Example: 50 = 1, 120 = 1, y0= 1.
What is indexing? Document indexing is the identification of specific attributes of a document to simplify and expedite accurate retrieval of a document. This is accomplished with an index, a system used to make finding information easier with descriptive data.
There are three methods your organization can use when indexing a document: Full-Text document indexing, Metadata, and Field-Based. When indexing files for your document management system, it is recommended that you use a combination of all the available methods for faster and more accurate document retrieval.
Indexing steps Crawl all pages of the seedlist and persist them to disk. Extract the file content and persist it to disk. Crawl a seedlist page from disk. Index the seedlist entries into Lucene documents. Write the documents to the Lucene index. Repeat until all the persisted seedlist pages have been crawled.
A good index will: be arranged in alphabetical order. include accurate page references that lead to useful information on a topic. avoid listing every use of a word or phrase. be consistent across similar topics. use sub-categories to break up long blocks of page numbers. use italics for publications and Acts.
Create the index Click where you want to add the index. On the References tab, in the Index group, click Insert Index. In the Index dialog box, you can choose the format for text entries, page numbers, tabs, and leader characters. You can change the overall look of the index by choosing from the Formats dropdown menu.
