[MUSIC PLAYING] ABBY RANDALL: An Exit Ticket is a short assessment given at the end of class that the students must complete before they can leave class for the day. So on a scrap piece of paper please put your name. These are Exit Tickets. Exit Tickets can be anything from a prepared one or two question little quiz that youve typed up or written, or it can be as simple as throwing a question up on the overhead and giving them scrap paper and having them solve it. They like the routine. They know exactly what to do. They know, at the end of the day, theyre going to be held accountable. Its a really quick way for me to assess if students learned the concept of the day. I often use it as the you-do part of guided practice, so once the students have practiced together, and weve done it together, then they are able to show me if they can do it on their own. An exit ticket - also called exit slip - is a sheet of paper or, in BookWidgets case, a digital widget with questions that each student answers individually at the end of the lesson. The questions can be about the lesson content (what they liked about it, what they remember), or about how they feel after the lesson.
Finally, exit tickets can be easily differentiated so that all students are engaged in the activity. For example, you can pose a content-based question, but offer a sentence stem for struggling students to guide them in formulating their response.
Why use exit slips? They provide teachers with an informal measure of how well students have understood a topic or lesson. They help students reflect on what they have learned. They allow students to express what or how they are thinking about new information.
Exit cards require students to respond to questions or prompts on a piece of paper that they will pass in to you before they leave class. These cards provide you with immediate information that you can use to assess students understanding, monitor their questions, or gather feedback on your teaching.
Exit Tickets or Tickets to leave are a formative assessment tool offering an effective way to end a class. Teachers may use exit tickets to assess students understanding of the topics they are teaching in class.
How to Use Create. Decide what youd like to find out about students learning at the end of the lesson. Write a question or pose a problem on the Exit Ticket, or post the question or problem for students to see. Collect. Set a specific amount of time for students to complete the Exit Ticket. Clarify.
Exit tickets are one of the easiest ways to obtain information and understanding from students. They are typically a small piece of paper or an index card on which students respond to a prompt from the teacher.
